Trip to Kuala Selangor

Last Saturday, went to Kuala Selangor to buy fresh fish.

Bought Giant Prawn or "Udang Galah" (RM45 per kilo), red snapper, mantis prawn, "Sembilang" (catfish), big sized Prawn.... all fresh from Pasir Penambang Market in Kuala Selangor, then headed to dried salted fish stalls a few kilometer further up.

Decided to head north just to check out any other attractions. Before reaching Tanjung Karang town saw a signboard for "Warung Ibu" - selling Nasi Ambeng - javanese style mixed rice: white rice, fried noodles, serunding (grated coconut), chicken (fried or cooked in black soy-sauce) the place was a hit with so many people. Many cars parked on the lawn and people crowding to eat.

Tried it and, well not bad.... they were featured on TV3's "Jalan-Jalan Cari Makan".

After that drive south towards Klang, upon reaching Jeram after Sg Buloh town, turn to the Jeram Beach to check the beach.... what a let down, the water is almost a kilometer from the beach.....! After that headed home, and next day surprise, surprise, woke up in the morning and saw a firefly in the house... how it managed to follow us home???

Paya Indah Wetlands - Crocodile

All photos were resized smaller and resolutions lowered due to webspace - rendering the pictures to be in low quality. For High Resolution photos, do not hesitate to contact me.

Feeding time for the Crocs are at 11a.m on Saturday and Sunday.

Large number of these creatures living in a very large lake at Paya Indah Wetlands.

Be careful, be very careful they just lurk in the water near you.

Don't worry, the place is enclosed with fences.

The biggest named Dol, swimming along the water monitoring the visitors and other crocs.

Jumping to catch their meals.

Feeding frenzy, Dol is very jealous if other croc manage to get catch a meal. Other croc are afraid of Dol.

Dol is showing off his catch... Notice the chicken head peeking out at the corner of his mouth, and the feet sticking out.

Dol the Croc.

Lot more pic of croc not uploaded.

GP Jati Beriani House

Saya ni "very particular" pasal nasi beriani ni.

Beriani Kambing
Giliran merasa nasinya dulu... WOW! memang sedap, nasi aje tu belum lagi lauk beriani...

Bila rasa kambing beriani... wah baru betul ni... memang tak di nafikan setelah sekian lama saya mencuba nasi beriani di KL/Selangor ni, inilah yang terbaik, terpower, tersedap untuk seluruk KL/Selangor lah. Sampai habis licin.

Udang Galah (Macrobrachium rosenbergii) Sg Timun

Udangnya fresh sebab dijual hidup-hidup.

Kapitan House Restaurant revisit

Last Saturday, we had another trip to Melaka and we stayed overnight at Melaka Town. After fetching my daughter from her school in Jasin we made our journey to Melaka Raya. The first stop is Kapitan House.

This time around we reached there at 2.30pm a bit late, but Kenny @ Bibik was there and he was very happy to know this is our second trip to his place. He was as bubbly as his character Bibik Kim Neo. And we are the last to leave.

So this time around we tried other dishes,

Fried Fish in Black Pepper Sauce - it is incredible a fusion of black pepper sauce with fried fish and voila it taste terrific. Its Bibik own recipe.

Assam Prawn - a bit sour, but my kids like it. I still prefer the prawn nanas (prawn masak lemak with pineapple) we had on our first trip.

Prawn Sambal with petai - very nice not too hot (tak pedas) but spicy

Kangkong Belacan

Blue lagoon for my youngest daughter.

Actually we also had Ayam Curry but forgot to take pictures.
Burppp! So what does it tell you. 4.5 out of 5 stars.

We had our dessert of cendol and ABC. Below, satisfied faces in front of the restaurant.

Mr Kenny or Bibik, your food are delicious and we shall return. Refer to our first visit here.

Kapitan House Restaurant

Yesterday we traveled to Melaka, to send my daughter back to MRSM Jasin. On the way we decided to detour to Banda Hilir for lunch. Last few weeks we saw on Astro's Warung Kita the host introduced a couple of eating places in the programs. So we decided to vote which place to go, we shortlisted 3 eateries; Restoran Indori (minang food), Restoran Asam pedas Selera Kampung and Kapitan House (nyonya cuisine).

My missus voted for Asam Pedas, myself voted Indori but all my children wants to try Kapitan House. Actually we forgot the address, but nevertheless, we still try to look for it, circling a couple of times around Melaka Raya. And as usual the driver (myself) will be the first to spot the place. Luckily I got a parking directly in front of the restaurant.

When we entered the shop we were greeted by the manager, and he told me that even on sundays we must display the parking tickets on the dashboard, being outsiders, we are not prepared and he offered me an hour coupon for free. Thank you so much! Great service.

Sorry no photos, left my cameras in the car and too lazy to fetch it.

We had Ayam Pongteh, Prawn masak lemak nanas, Fish fried in salt with sambal, Nyonya otak-otak, sambal squid and white rice. It was incredible, delicious and salute to the chef.

The restaurant is co-owned by a TV and stage baba-nyonya comedian, Kenny or better known as Bibik Kim Neo on stage (dressed as a matriarch of baba-nyonya family). Unfortunately he was not available that day due to some show in KL. We missed the opportunity to meet him but i promise my kids to return if we come to Melaka. We were told he owns several factories to process his food product and he is the master-chef; a qualified chef and cook.

Seafood @ Kg Teluk, PD

Inilah Medan Ikan Bakar Kg Telok.

Umph!
Pari bakarnya kurang menyengat sebab cicahnya kurang power, perlu improvise lagi sambal kicap atau sambal asam macam kat belakang istana negara (jln bellamy).

Inilah gerai ikan bakar/seafood.

Seafood by the Bay

Hi, it has been sometime now, today i would like to share with you, makan-makan place.

Again it is at Kg Teluk, Pasir Panjang, Port Dickson in Negeri Sembilan. Now i include the photos for you to judge. Actually we had a very early dinner, it was only 5pm when we reach the place. We ordered sea bass steamed with lime (ikan siakap masak stim limau),
grilled stingray (pari bakar),
chillie fried clams (lala goreng berlada)
and fried calamari (sotong goreng tepung),
and it was eaten with rice - nasi lemak.

It was really overwhelming as all of us short of breath after finishing all the dishes. everybody enjoyed our dinner and each of us had two pack of nasi lemak except my wife who took only one and my youngest daughter finishup 3 packets.

And the bill was RM88.20 for the whole meal, inclusive of five iced lemon tea.

For muslims, not to worry, a newly built wakaf for prayers is just next to the eatery. Since the post is limited, wait for the part 2 soon.

Weekend

I was away during the weekend, went over to my daughter's boarding school on Saturday morning to attend a prayer for her upcoming PMR exminations in October. And then drive down to Johor Bahru to my mom's place. Stayed there for 2 nights. Really miss my internet connection.

Maybe it is not too late to wish "Happy National Day" and also a "Selamat Berpuasa"

Sunday, the merdeka day was a boring day, just ended up watching the live telecast of the National Day parade, it was a rainy day in Johor bahru. Mom was not at home, she had to attend her thrice weekly haemodialisys treatment on that day. My wife has been pestering to have lunch outside rather than for her to cook. Reluctantly, i concede defeat and starts my car and we discovered a new food outlet, to me(and some of my friends from KL and even endorsed by the Singaporeans) Johor is a food heaven. Anyway, i will include about the food and eateries in Johor later. And also a restaurant at Ayer Keroh, Restoran Ikan Bakar Malim, where we had lunch after the school event, before driving down to JB.

On Monday, i had to travel back to Malacca to send my daughter. After sending my daughter we drive up to Port Dickson using the old village road instead of the highway. There was very few vehicles on the road and it was quite a smooth journey for us, about 60 km from my daughter's school to my son's polytechnic.

We "ta pau" some kuih and food bought from villagers, who are still selling 3pcs for RM1 (in KL it cost RM1.20 for three pieces and the size is 2/3 of what you get from kampung people). The Naga Sari, a delicious kuih made of banana swathe with jelly like soft rice flour and wrapped with banana leaves, very difficult to find in KL. Kuihs made by villagers are very authentic. I should have taken some photos but since we had to "buka puasa" in the car, I had no choice, my stomach gets the priorities.

We plan to stop at R&R Elmina at the Guthrie Corridor Expressway, but all the stalls were closed. Before that both R&R at Seremban and Dengkil was fully packed, so we had no choice and break our fast in the car. We find it difficult as so many Malay restaurants were closed yesterday, kedai mamak to the rescue...

Makan @ Port Weld - Mee Udang

Monday, 2 June we visited Kuala Sepetang a.k.a Port Weld, we had Mee Udang "Selak-selak udang jumpa Mee" normally selak mee baru jumpa udang, or "Ada Mee di sebalik Udang" from malay idiom "ada udang disebalik mee", We had our mee udang at Salleh Stall, not so famous as Mak Teh's, and this stall is frequented only by those in the know.

I was surprised, after we arrived there was none stop of "out-of-towners" visitors coming in to have Mee Udang at 10a.m., how do they get know about this stall. Must be by word of mouth! never mind that we enjoyed our large sized Udang... burrrp, excuse me!
