Last Wednesday, May 27, 2009, my brother who had just past his 50th birthday 12 days before, passed away due to Pancreatic failure. It took less than 24hrs hospitalization in ICU unit and 2 days of minor pain.
A brother whom I always admired, my role model, my closest sibling and mentor, my mirror image, I respected in every which way had gone away, so sudden and so unexpected.
Azlan Bin Othman an ex-Malay College boy, Class of '96, MCKK's First Thoroughbred 92-98, was the deputy school Captain, a gold medal recipient of school award. Nicknamed "Lae" among Koleq Classmates.
A great fan of Pink Floyd, BB King, Bobby Bland... (Indirectly influenced my taste for Blues music and B.B. King.)
The brother whom I am always jealous of, his educational achievement, his career, the attention he gets, the worst part is I am always being mistaken for him. My parents and brothers and sisters will call his nickname "Lan" instead of mine, "Jang" when talking to me.
Anyway, I still respect him and he supported me with pocket money when I was studying in ITM. The amount was not big but enough for me to survive. Our father at the time was a pensioner and only earned meagre sum from his pension.
We are from a big family of 12 siblings. 6 boys and 6 girls, Allahyarham Azlan number nine and myself the eleventh (the second last).
I wish to thank for all the wishes and support we received from all relatives, friends, especially from his ex-Boss Datuk Ketua pengarah yang lama dan yang baru ambil alih Dato' Ahmad Zamzamin dan kesemua staff Bhg Penyelidikan JPM yang hadir di Hospital dan di Johor Bahru, rakan-rakan PTD dan rakan-rakan sekelasnya di MCKK dan MCOBA, saudara-mara, sahabat handai yang mengenalinya.
To Kak Siti and his daughters', Aziyan (born in Taiwan) and Azita (born in China), be strong dan sentiasa doakan untuk Arwah.
To my brother, my mentor, my role model, "Ku doakan semoga Allah mencucuri rahmat ke atas roh kamu dan semoga di tempatkan di kalangan orang-orang yang Salih dan beriman". Al-Fatihah.
